RSF Borrower Sambazon 1st to Achieve Fair-Trade Certification for Acai

RSF borrower Sambazon, the leading global supplier of acai, has recently achieved Fair Trade certification for its crop of the antioxidant-rich fruit – making official the company’s longstanding commitment to fair wages, environmentally sound farming practices, and reinvestment in the Brazilian communities where they work.  Sambazon’s mission is to bring high-quality, organic acai products to the planet, which they do through a supply chain that benefits thousands of local families in Brazil and protects the biodiversity of the Amazon rainforest through sustainable agriculture.  The importance that Sambazon places on people and the planet is further displayed by the Sustainable Amazon Partnership (SAP) that Sambazon started with the Brazil Foundation and the Peabiru Institute to ensure the lasting sustainable management of the acai regions and communities.
