Bravo, Elizabeth, there are many socially responsible choices in the investment and retirement world that can also meet your desire for consolidation. Congratulations on taking the first step!

I have been an account holder at Bank of America since the mid 70's and for the most part, I have never felt like the "customer." It all started as a local or community bank that grew, prospered and devoured other banking groups. My family held shares of stock in the company so we felt a sense of loyalty. Unfortuately, the loyalty only runs one way and after the past 18 months of finacnial disorder, I will never conduct or consider financial dealings with the banks "too big to fail."

I did pass on comments to friends based on The Nation's article about the Move Your Money movement, which reminds me of the Farm boycotts of Hugo Chavez years ago. And that was quite successful in its time.
What you have talked about is also related to the long article I read about Elizabeth Warren's work on the issue of the declining middle class and documenting all the ins and outs of each aspect of this decline.
If we are to become more sustainable as a society we all need to analyze our behavior and make the changes we can to bring about the change we want to see--one person at a time.

Elizabeth,
as you move through this process, I would be interested in your feedback on how your conclusion regarding the options you have for retirment investing, your guiding value regarding your overall portfolio mission and the actual choices you make for retirement investment vehicles.
All the best,

At age 85, my financial situation is less complicated than it once was.
Just received notice that Wells Fargo is taking over my primary bank (Wachovia--which used to be XXXBank, then XXXBank, etc, etc.) It seems too complicated to try to change my Social Security check deposit, VISA acct payments, MRD deposits, etc. Do you know any shortcuts to untangle this mess? Thank you. Lois
