Help the Marion Institute Help Veterans Through an RSF Challenge Grant

RSF grantee the Marion Institute has received a two-for-one matching grant through RSF for $33,000, meaning that one dollar will be added from the RSF donor for every two dollars raised, leading to a potential total of $99,000.  The money raised will go to the Massachusetts-based organization’s “Welcome Home Project,” which aims to heal a cultural wound by bridging the historic and painful divide that exists between veterans (including their families) and the civilian communities in which they live.  Specifically, the funds are being raised for this project in order to finance the editing and distribution of a film that documents a five-day healing retreat for veterans, called Voices of Vets, that culminates in a ‘welcome home’ ceremony where veterans read poems, stories, or songs about their experiences.  The film shows how veterans and their communities can come together “in reconciliation, deeper understanding, and acceptance.”  The Welcome Home Project hopes that the film will be used to inspire communities nation-wide to start similar programs and gatherings, raising awareness and creating dialogue about the tension and stress that accompanies returning veterans.
