RSF’s Small Planet Fund Raises Over $21K at Annual Fundraiser

RSF provides administrative services to a number of grant-making funds in our three focus areas. In the area of Food & Agriculture, one very active fund that we have is the Small Planet Fund.  Founded by mother-daughter team Frances Moore Lappé and Anna Lappé, the Small Planet Fund makes emergency grants to support courageous movements bringing to life citizen-led solutions to hunger, poverty, and environmental devastation around the world. Some of the Small Planet Fund’s core grantees are the Grameen Bank, Navdanya Farmers’ Network, the Green Belt Movement, and Family Farm Defenders. Each year they throw a party and auction to raise money for the fund, as well as an honorary grantee. This year the grantee was Just Food, a New York City-based non-profit that unites local farms and city residents of all economic backgrounds with fresh, seasonal, sustainably grown food.  Since the auction in December, over 55 donations have come into RSF totaling over $21,000!  Frances expressed her excitement to us, saying, “What joy Anna and I get from being able to channel funds to groups like Just Food.  Its recent NYC Food and Climate Summit was a stunning success, with a thousand seats booked in 36 hours.  We feel all our grantees are trailblazers.”
