Utne Reader Features Economics of Peace Article
Eric Utne, founder of the Utne Reader, wrote an article titled “Think Globally, Bank Locally” for the January/February issue of the magazine about his experience attending the Economics of Peace conference that was sponsored by RSF Social Finance and Praxis Peace Institute this past October. In the piece, he admits having felt skeptical about alternatives to Wall Street prior to the financial meltdown, but explained how the crisis drove him to take a harder, more critical look at the way our economy works. Ellen Brown, author of Web of Debt, was of particular inspiration to Utne at the conference in her discussion of “how we the people lost the power to create money and how we can get it back again.” Utne encourages readers to get involved in the dialogue around how we can rebuild and strengthen our economy again through local actions and alternative economic movements.
