Job Announcement: Staff Accountant

RSF Social Finance seeks to hire a full-time Staff Accountant who aspires to apply his or her creative capacity, skills, and experience to support a social mission dedicated to a more just and sustainable world. The Staff Accountant provides accounting support to the organization, and is responsible for journal entry preparation, account reconciliations, monthly closings, and other analysis. This position reports to the Accounting Supervisor.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Ensure completion (including all posting) and maintenance (including reconciliation) of assigned General Ledger accounts to an agreed schedule for production of monthly management and year end reporting.
  • Participate in month end closing with timely and accurate posting of adjusting entries and reconciliation of key GL accounts and bank accounts as requested by the Accounting Supervisor.
  • Monitor accounts receivable; ensure all applicable costs are recharged to clients and paid promptly.
  • Support quarter end statement production process as required.
  • Participate in preparation of year end audit schedules as required.
  • Contribute to the overall effectiveness of the Accounting Team; provide backup support to other team members as needed.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Accounting Supervisor that are within the scope of currently assigned duties and the incumbent’s related work experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • An undergraduate degree from an accredited institution in Accounting, or equivalent experience.
  •  A minimum of three (3) to five (5) years of demonstrable experience functioning as an accounting professional.
  • Some nonprofit accounting experience a plus.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills in English.
  • Good knowledge of accounting processes, management of accounting operations, internal controls, GAAP, financial reporting and taxation rules, regulations and appropriate practices.
  • The ability to accurately prepare and interpret financial data.
  • The ability to effectively use standard business software such as Microsoft Office.
  • Demonstrable experience providing direct accounting support in a multi-funded environment.
  • The ability to effectively use a computer and telephone to conduct business.
  • The ability to read and compose documents so that their intent is easily understood

Job Announcement: Associate Counsel, Social Enterprise Lending

Position Summary:

The Associate Counsel, Social Enterprise Lending is responsible for (i) managing due diligence of prospective borrowers, (ii) reviewing and preparing loan documents, (iii) managing loan transaction logistics to ensure timely, efficient, and professional documentation and closings and (iv) managing post-closing legal relationship with borrowers. This position also supervises the work of the Loan Documentation Associate.

Key Experience and Qualifications Include:

  • Law degree (JD or equivalent)
  • Admitted to the California bar
  • Minimum of two years’ experience in preparing loan and security documents for commercial finance transactions
  • Demonstrated familiarity with loan operations procedures
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct legal research
  • Some supervisory experience preferred

Job Announcement: Communications Assistant

Position Summary:

RSF Social Finance seeks to hire a full-time Communications Assistant to provide administrative and clerical support to the Marketing and Communications department, primarily focused on print and online publications, social media, event logistics, and sponsorships.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Online Media

  • Publish monthly e-news
  • Draft and publish press releases (as needed)
  • Post to social media accounts on a regular basis
  • Publish weekly blog/news posts on RSF website and distribute among third party partners
  • Maintain up-to-date and accurate content on RSF website, including copy, statistics, and graphics
  • Assist with production, editing, and publishing of podcasts, webinars, and videos
  • Track and maintain RSF listings/profiles on third party sites

Publications & Collateral

  • Support print publications, including but not limited to:
    • editing and proofing
    • transcribing
    • writing
    • communicating with authors
  • Assist with collection and tracking of stories for RSF publications and collateral
  • Maintain RSF media library of photos, videos, quotes, testimonials
  • Draft and maintain marketing collateral for RSF’s Client Development and Lending teams
  • Maintain up-to-date and accurate content on RSF marketing collateral, including copy, statistics, and graphics

Events & Sponsorships

  • Manage the overall organizational events calendar
  • Provide logistical and program support for RSF hosted events, including:
    • event design and planning
    • invitation design and mailing
    • invite and RSVP list management
    • day-of onsite logistics
    • event follow up
  • Coordinate and track fulfillment of sponsorship benefits

Administrative and Clerical Support

  • Manage Salesforce client, prospect, and partner-sponsorship lists. Create and run reports for Marketing and Communications Team
  • Maintain the Team’s information systems, including electronic files, intranet content, and hard copy files
  • Track and maintain inventory of print materials
  • Record and monitor notes, action items, and follow ups for Marketing and Communications team
  • Conduct basic phone intake for Marketing and Communications Team
  • Coordinate and conduct follow up correspondence and requests for information
  • Prepare and ship packets of RSF collateral materials for conferences and events
  • Support research of new advertising and promotional opportunities
  • Support departmental reporting through updating of statistics and metrics related to Marketing and  Communications activities
  • Copying, scanning, and mailing for Marketing and Communications (as needed)
  • Suggest process improvements (when relevant)

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Associate’s degree required, Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • One to two years of administrative/office work experience
  • Marketing and communications experience preferred; event management experience preferred
  • Work and/or volunteer experience in the nonprofit or social finance sector is desirable
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English
  • Excellent organizational skills, time management, and attention to detail
  • Strong analytical and math skills required; familiarity with financial concepts and terms preferred
  • Ability to effectively use standard business software such as Microsoft Office
  • Experience with Salesforce  preferred; or ability to learn quickly
  • Experience with Adobe InDesign preferred; or ability to learn quickly
  • Experience with WordPress or other online blog software a plus

Job Announcement: Director of Credit and Portfolio Management

Position Summary:

RSF Social Finance seeks to hire a full-time Director of Credit and Portfolio Management. The Director provides thought leadership to the Credit and Portfolio Management team to help RSF attain its purpose, values, and operating principles, and is responsible for the following:

  1. oversight of the credit approval process and assurance of compliance (or proper notification of non-compliance) with existing policy,
  2. working with the Director of Lending to ensure client engagement and customer service requirements are being met,
  3. working with the Director of Lending and the business development team to ensure timely, consistent, and complete communication between the teams,
  4. management of the Loan Operations team,
  5. detection of deterioration in loan quality, and monitoring and resolution of problem loans, and
  6. delivery of reports detailing the quality and composition of the loan portfolio, the quality of client service, and social impact.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Credit and Portfolio Management

  • Establish and maintain a credit culture within the organization that results in strong fundamental credit practices while advancing the organization’s mission and values.
  • Manage the underwriting of new and existing credits. Work with Lending Managers to underwrite new commercial loans. Conduct due diligence, financial analysis, and research for new loan inquiries. Support Lending Managers in the preparation of credit memoranda.
  • Oversee Credit Committee meetings, loan portfolio risk management, and the implementation of credit policies and procedures.
  • Serve as a signing member of Credit Committee to provide loan approvals and guidance on structure and pricing of credits.
  • Develop, review, and recommend policies and procedures for loan and credit operations.  Conduct periodic audits of policies and procedures.  Recommend changes/improvements, where appropriate, to internal controls.
  • Develop and implement tools needed to effectively measure and control risk.  Oversee and implement loan risk rating system including recommendations for appropriate Loan Loss Reserves.
  • Based on RSF’s strategy and long-term goals, perform quantitative and qualitative analysis of Social Enterprise Lending Program portfolio of loans including, but not limited to, segment, concentration, expertize, and stress test analysis.  Report and make recommendations to senior management.
  • Responsible for the resolution of non-performing loans, restructurings and work-throughs.
  • Member and the Leader of the Asset Liability Committee
  • Act as staff liaison to Board Loan Group/Committee
  • Fulfill requests from CPA auditors

Loan Operations

  • Lead and manage the operation and performance of the Loan Operations team, including Underwriting, Lending Legal & Documentation, Funding, Servicing, Compliance, and Portfolio Analysis.
  • Carry out management responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable law. Responsibilities include hiring and training employees, planning, assigning and directing work, appraising performance, addressing complaints, and resolving problems.
  • Determine and manage handoffs between business development, underwriting, legal and documentation, servicing, and compliance functional areas.
  • Manage expectations with loan prospects regarding timing of loan approval and documentation processes. Manage Loan Operations team to ensure timely completion of milestones and deliverables.
  • Lead the Loan Operations team to ensure a stellar client experience consistent with ideals of RSF’s mission of transforming the way the world works with money.
  • Provide coaching and mentorship to staff members.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Education and Experience:  An undergraduate degree is required; preferably in Business Administration or Finance.  MBA and/or other relevant advanced degree preferred.  Must have a minimum of 12 years of commercial transaction lending experience, including experience with asset and cash flow based credit analysis, financial modeling, and commercial loan structuring experience. Prior experience/exposure in compliance, internal audit, and security procedures in order to mitigate risk is also required.  Familiarity with both for-profit and non-profit borrowers strongly preferred.

English Language Communication Skills:  Must have strong oral and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate information, ideas, and strategies regarding risk management to all levels of management and non-management, articulate RSF’s lending philosophy, loan products, policies, and procedures, and the ability to converse by telephone with potential and existing clients.

Finance and Math Skills:  Must have a solid grasp of for-profit and non-profit accounting, advanced credit analysis and financial modeling.

Technical Skills:  Must be able to effectively use standard business software such as Microsoft Office; and to use the Internet for research and information-gathering.  Should have strong knowledge of statistics, data collection and analysis.

Management Capabilities:  Must be able to set and communicate priorities, delegate responsibilities appropriately, manage work-flow, determine staff development needs, properly utilize HR resources and effectively communicate with staff being managed.

Judgment and Independence:  Must exercise good judgment, with minimal supervision, to manage time effectively, solve significant loan structuring problems, determine and address RSF’s needs, respond appropriately to changing circumstances and priorities, and deal effectively with clients, service providers and other staff.  Must have the ability to effectively communicate, negotiate, and present information to a wide range of audiences and ability to respond professionally to varied inquiries or complaints from members.

Physical Demands:  Must be able to use a computer for extended periods of time up to 8 hours per day; and must be able to frequently communicate orally in person and by telephone.  Must be able to travel nationally for client and site visits.

Attendance and Availability:  Must be able to work at RSF’s offices during regular office hours as set forth in RSF’s Employee Manual, and to occasionally work extra hours as necessary to complete time-sensitive projects.

Internships and Fellowships

In the spirit of building the field of social finance, RSF Social Finance offers internship and fellowship programs each year open to talented college students and recent graduates.

Internships

Internship positions will be available during the summer term of each year, and Intern(s) will work closely with one or more departments within RSF.  Exact duties and qualifications for the position(s) will vary from year to year.  Internships are paid, and require an on-site commitment of 10-12 weeks over the summer.  Internships will be announced by March 1st of each year, and applications will be due by March 25th of each year.

Fellowships

Regional Social Impact Fellow Graduate Fellowship

Various locations across the US and Canada

Each year, RSF seeks exceptional, analytical and entrepreneurial Regional Social Impact Fellows to serve in an eight month Fellowship role.  Open to graduate students enrolled in the US and Canada, Regional Social Impact Fellows identify, vet and pitch promising social impact businesses and organizations to RSF for financing (senior, secured debt and mezzanine debt.)  The Regional Fellow is responsible for scanning and understanding the local, state and regional landscape for high potential innovations, trends and movements focused on the creation of social value and impact; sourcing local social enterprises – for profit or non-profit – that exhibit both financial sustainability and significant social impact; conducting preliminary due diligence from published and public sources; and presenting the business case for investment to senior staff at RSF. Successful Fellows will gain a reputation for his/her strategic ability to spot and qualify ground-breaking and pioneering approaches to solving pressing social problems through social business.
